The UT System and the Texas Success Center at the Texas Association of Community Colleges have been long-time providers of professional development for advisors within universities and colleges, respectively, providing statewide institutes to build the capacity of institutions and to develop scaled systems that dramatically improve the student experience.
This virtual institute is the first-ever co-sponsored event, designed to bring together UT universities with their major feeder pattern community college(s) to improve transfer advising.
Institute Objectives:
- Improve coordination and communication across CCs and 4-year partners focused on how students are advised.
- Create a shared understanding of excellence in advising and responsibility for the context in which academic advising takes place at the CC and 4-year institutional levels, thereby ensuring that students receive timely, accurate information to support their educational goals.
- Ensure that transfer students enter 4-year institutions with credits that will count toward their degree and with guided pathways designed to align with UT institutional degrees to position students for academic success and timely degree completion.
- Position academic advisors at the CC and 4-year institutional levels to succeed by embedding equity-minded, asset-based approaches to academic advising and interactions with students.
